Laboratory Handling Guide
Proper aseptic technique, personal protective equipment, workspace setup, and disposal requirements for handling research peptide compounds in a laboratory setting.
All Alpha Tides compounds are for in-vitro laboratory research only. This guide is provided for researchers working in controlled laboratory environments. See the full Research Disclaimer.
Workspace Preparation
Maintaining a clean and controlled workspace is the foundation of consistent, reproducible peptide research. Contamination introduced during preparation can compromise experimental results and compound integrity.
Choose a Low-Traffic Area
Work in a quiet, low-traffic area to minimize airborne particulates. Ideally, use a laminar flow hood or biosafety cabinet for any open-vial work.
Disinfect the Work Surface
Wipe down the work surface with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allow it to fully dry before placing any equipment or compounds on it. Repeat between each reconstitution session.
Prepare All Equipment in Advance
Lay out all syringes, alcohol swabs, vials, and labeling materials before beginning. Opening packages mid-procedure increases contamination risk.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
| PPE Item | Requirement | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Nitrile gloves | Required | Change gloves between different compounds; do not touch face |
| Lab coat or similar | Recommended | Protects clothing from accidental spills |
| Safety glasses | Recommended | Required when handling needles or pressurized vials |
| Closed-toe shoes | Required | Standard laboratory footwear requirement |
| Mask | Situational | Recommended when working with powdered compounds |
Aseptic Technique
Aseptic technique refers to a set of practices designed to prevent contamination of sterile materials. In peptide research, this is critical when drawing from reconstituted vials and during reconstitution.
Always Swab Before Piercing
Wipe all rubber stoppers with a fresh 70% isopropyl alcohol swab before every needle insertion. Allow to air dry for 15–30 seconds — do not blow on or fan the swabbed area.
Use a Fresh Needle Every Time
Never reuse needles between draws. Each draw should use a new sterile syringe to prevent introducing contaminants into the vial.
Never Touch the Needle or Plunger
Keep the needle and syringe plunger tip sterile by not touching them. If either is touched or dropped, use a new syringe.
Work Quickly With Open Compounds
Minimize the time any compound is exposed to the open environment. Replace vial caps promptly after drawing.
Sharps Safety and Disposal
Needles and syringes used in research settings are regulated sharps and must be disposed of properly. Never recap a used needle by hand — this is a primary cause of needlestick injuries in laboratory settings.
| Item | Disposal Method |
|---|---|
| Used needles and syringes | FDA-cleared sharps disposal container (never in regular trash) |
| Alcohol swabs | Regular trash — no sharps risk |
| Empty vials | Puncture-resistant container or local medical waste guidelines |
| Reconstituted expired solution | Follow local chemical/biological waste disposal regulations |
Improper disposal of sharps is illegal in most jurisdictions and poses a public health risk. Many pharmacies and local health departments offer free sharps disposal programs. Check your state and local regulations.
Storage and Compound Integrity
Proper storage is as important as proper handling during preparation. Compounds exposed to incorrect temperatures or light conditions prior to use may yield unreliable research results. See the complete Peptide Storage Guide for temperature, light, and duration requirements for all Alpha Tides compounds.
Spill Management
In the event of a vial spill during reconstitution or handling:
- Do not panic — research peptides at these volumes present minimal general hazard
- Put on nitrile gloves if not already wearing them
- Absorb liquid with paper towels and discard in appropriate waste container
- Wipe the area with 70% isopropyl alcohol twice and allow to dry
- Document the spill in your research log
